sign in pages

Hi everyone.... some friends here have been following what we are doing on Peta's altered book project and want to do one next year. I told them that people have noted what a great idea it is to have a sign in page for the artists. If you have a book you are working on at the moment with one, can you take a pic and put it on the blog please. Some I have seen are great...and it would be good to show the.....and helpful for me at the moment!

early morning walk near the pony paddock FTP

Early morning work in early Spring up past the pony club paddock and down by the river. There are more scarlet honeyeaters there than I have ever seen in my life before. They are breeding, as we are seeing th eir babies being fed.

Biami Yumba Park 24.08.09

Not so early morning walk...and happened on this pair of wood ducks with chicks. Also saw the feral white ducks...someone must have decided to release them in the lagoon.

Whale Watching in August 2009...from the Australia zoo boat off Mooloolaba harbour. Saw several dolphin swimming ahead of the boat, and lots of whales, none very close.

Coolum Beach

Sunrise photos from Coolum Beach in August 2009. The beach is regenerating after the recent storms.

There have been several foggy mornings this June, and on this morning I took my camera and tried to find some nice things to photograph. It is a quick way to get wet feet.

walk at Biami Yumba 14.6.09

Another morning walk through Biami Yumba park, and on past the pony club grounds and down by the river. It was a beautiful blue sky winter day. There were lots of birds around, but not a lot keen to be recorded for posterity.

The Clare Valley north of Adelaide is a beautiful place to visit early in winter. It is crisp and cool, and the autumn colours in the vineyards are quite spectacular. We went to Maggie Beers for lunch and enjoyed the cooking demonstration. We drove around the district for a few days, sampling wines and foods of the region.

Lake Eyre trip May 2009

We flew out to Lake Eyre, which is filling with the monsoon rains that fell in the north of Australia earlier this year. It was a flying trip...via Innaminka and Birdsville.

Biami Yumba Park

I go walking in Biami Yumba Park most mornings. It is a pretty little local suburban park that is home to a surprising number of local birds. Many ducks, swamp hens, coots, egrets, cormorants and a spoonbill make their home in the lagoon. Currently the lagoon park is having a revegetation program installed, and the new trees and shrubs are growing madly. Each day there is something different to notice.

Woodgate Beach

Recently we went to Woodgate Beach, south of Bundaberg on the Central Queensland coast. It is a beautiful part of the world. The beach is protected by the mass of Fraser Island out to sea. The 20,000 hectare national park is a few blocks inland from the beach. Woodgate
Beach is bordered on the northern end by Theodolite Creek and the Burrum River to the south.The place is quiet and abounds with lovely flora and fauna. It is like the untouched beaches of years ago. Kangaroos live within the community, and you will find them in the parks and backyard gardens all through this small beach community. The day we were there we saw several Brahminy Kites patrolling the beach area looking for food.

Oxley Creek Common

Yesterday I went to the Oxley Creek Common to enjoy a long liesurely walk in the early morning. It was a beautiful morning to be outside. In recent years this public area has been revegetated with native plants and with the recent year of good rains, everything is growing like mad. The place seemed alive with bird calls.

With the help of my son we identified the following birds that we saw. Australian wood duck; grey teal; pacific black duck; Australiasian grebe; rock dove; crested pigeon; bar-shouldered dove; Australasian darter; little black cormorant; eastern great egret; cattle egret; Australian white ibis; straw-necked ibis; black-shouldered kite; brahminy kite; collared sparrowhawk; swamp harrier; wedge tailed eagle; nankeen kestral; brown falcon; purple swamp hen; dusky moorhen; Eurasian coot; black-winged stilt; black-fronted dotteral; masked lapwing; little corella; cockatiel; rainbow lorikeet; laughing kookaburra; superb fair-wren; red-backed fairy wren; variegated fairy wren; white browed scrub wren; mangrove gerygone; white-throated gerygone; yellow-rumped thornbill; striated pardelote; Lewin's honeyeater; noisy miner.
